Hi, How are you doing? Today I wanted to share Part 1 of 2 of an experiment I did some years ago.
The results were pretty interesting. I'm going to share the whole process with you. But use this with respect to others. Reread what I wrote in the previous posts about caring for your people and helping them.
This experiment increased the number of leaders who came to support health awareness organisations. 7 times. Yes seven.. But that wasn't the most important thing that happened. Something far more noteworthy happened as a result.
It directly allowed me to convince these leaders to spend one week of their own paid vacation times (when they normally lie on a beach) at non-profit organisations to coach and help them onsite.
Subsequent similar applications of mine and people I know have always yielded consistently outstanding results. If this sounds scientific, this is because it really is scientific.. :)
Anyhow. Here's the experiment:
It was 2007.
In my own time I was helping a health group to recruit and convince leaders and project managers from private companies. So, they came and supported some newly emerging health awareness subsidiaries in their regions. And of course in their own times too!
So I took contact approximately 30 people and asked them if they'd have come to spend a week onsite to coach and support younger people and employees in some project management, strategy, finance and human resources tasks.
Guess how successful I was. I wasn't good. Only one out of 30 individuals decided to come to us. Yes the result could have been worst, it could have been zero but something was still wrong.
So, in the next round of 30 contacts, I tried something different. I did the experiment.
I contacted other 30 individuals and asked them if they'd have had 20 minutes to review a not yet released health awareness flyers and send me their review.
I got 23 positive responses. I thought and I actually still think this was a fair result. 23 out of 30 people agreed to sacrifice their 20 minutes for public good by reading a couple of pages and summarising their input with a few bullet points.
For me what happened next was the real surprising part: One month later I contacted these 23 individuals who'd previously accepted to review the flyers and I asked them if they'd have had a week to coach a healthcare centrum onsite.
Here is the result: 7 out of 23 agreed... They all showed up. And they delivered their duties. Go figure. :)
